"The Shining" sequel: Set in..Binghamton?

Apparently Stephen King recently let it slip that he is working on a sequel to his 1970's novel The Shining. He's not really one for sequels, and The Shining is one of the few films made from his books that holds up, but I have to admit that if it's true, then "Doctor Sleep" (as he's calling the sequel) might become my first Stephen King purchase in 20 years. King penned "The Shining" back when he wrote books that came closer to being traditional novels vs. what he eventually started churning out, which were stories or screenplay ideas. Carrie, The Shining, The Dead Zone, The Stand, and even Firestarter, were great ideas, well written and as much fun as a day at Great Adventure. For me, Cujo was the beginning of the end, when the idea of "the mysterious force" took over his writing and, never quite defined, allowed one mediocre story after the other to fall out of his typewriter. Or he became a great screenplay generator ("Misery"). Depends on how you look at it, I guess. I read the The Stand one summer in my youth, and I remember crying when I flipped to the last page, wishing it went on for another thousand pages.

Can't wait to see where the location will be for Doctor Sleep, which is supposedly set in "Upstate New York." I have a few suggestions if he needs scary extras.

CESARIA EVORA

Cesaria Evora is an incredible singer from Cape Verde off the coast of Africa, known for performing their national music and dance style called Morna. She had a tough life growing up in an orphanage and struggling through a mostly impoverished existence with many personal struggles. But her love of music and performing led her to break out of her situation and become an internationally respected performer. Check out her music if you have the chance. This clip of Goldie Hawn and Shaun Cassidy is from The Goldie Hawn Variety Special from 1977. As dumb as this is, and you must watch the uh, dance, at the end....there is something sweet about how simple TV was then, and how these underproduced shows felt more intimate and comfortable and spontaneous. Things are heading back this way a little, and it's way overdue.

I can't think of a better first post than to link you to Susan Boyle's performance of her first single on America's Got Talent last night. All the media hype aside, she is a beautiful person who says she spent most of her life as "an observer" and is finally "a part of the world." Listening to her is proof that real talent shines through if we just take a second to listen, and that when someone who has lived through life's experiences opens their mouth to sing or to speak, they bring everything they've got with them. It's something we're missing in our arts and entertainment these days, and it's so great when someone like Susan breaks through. Her album is out at the end of November.
